PAPA and Replay FX has Teamed-up with Project Pinball
« on: August 11, 2014, 06:20:06 AM »
On Friday, August 15, 2014, Project Pinball Charity Group, PAPA Headquarters and Replay Foundation will team up to participate in the its first Charity Fund Drive to help assist to purchase and place pinball machines in the Children’s Hospitals.

Project Pinball Charity is dedicated to providing recreational relief to our small patients and their families as well as the physicians and nurses who care for them at our local Children’s Hospitals. A pinball machine is a powerful instrument that offers therapeutic benefits which fit perfectly with the dynamics of a hospital environment.  It helps keep patients active and mobile while also providing amusement.

The PAPA Headquarters is a 30,000 square foot warehouse dedicated to competitive pinball. Features include more than 450 pinball machines for tournament and normal play, projection screens and kiosks for reviewing tournament game coverage and standings, a broadcast booth offering live on the spot tournament coverage and fifteen television screens showing this live tournament coverage.

The Replay Foundation promotes the preservation, restoration, and enjoyment of pinball technology, with an emphasis on the player experience. They are bringing together the Replay FX Arcade & Gaming Festival that will feature the largest public collection of full-sized pinball, arcade, tabletop, and console games and the greatest face-painters anywhere in the solar system.

Project Pinball Charity will be setup at the PAPA Headquarters in Carnegie, PA, to hold a Charity Challenge High Score Contest that will benefit their charity cause. This high score contest will allow a player to pay $5 per entry try. All the proceeds will benefit the Project Pinball Charity and their cause to help the Children’s Hospitals.

“Sponsors and volunteers are crucial to our work, so we’re thankful to have built such strong relationships with PAPA and the Replay Foundation through the Project Pinball Charity,” said Daniel Spolar, Senior Director. “This program wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our sponsors, volunteers, pinball players nationwide, and with their help we can make 2014, Project Pinball’s best year yet!”

PAPA 17 begins on August 14th and will continue until the 17th. You can find more information here: http://papa.org/papa-tournaments/papa-world-championships/papa-17-world-championships/

Project Pinball Charity will be on site all four days so stop over at their table and show your support. For more information on Project Pinball Charity and what they do can be found here: Http://www.ProjectPinball.org

We are looking forward to setting up on-site at PAPA headquarters in a few hours and get everything ready for the fundraiser there. I will try to post a picture of our booth area and the Star Treks. We have our Star Trek and the one PAPA offered for us to use for our charity. How cool is that?

We are all set to go. PAPA doors open at 11am. Both Star Treks are ready to take PAPA tokens. It will be a dollar per play.

PAPA A division has a Star Trek in the line-up so we should get some players coming over to practicing on ours since these are the only ST here.

Wow! What a great Charity Challenge tournament. We had a lot of the top players coming by to try their hands on the Star Treks. Jim Belsito,  Adam Becker, Karl DeAngelo, the Sharpes, Zack and Josh playing zen together scored 38m, Josh Henderson, Steven Bowden, Johnny Modica, Cryss Stephens, Andrei Massenkoff, Bowen Kerins, Escher Lefkoff and others.

It was a tight battle all the way to the final minute. Escher Lefkoff was leading most of the day with 61 then Cryss Stephens came over and put up 80m which held until the last hour. Preston Moncla a new PAPA C division player had 57m on his first ball, played smoothly up to 87m with held until fifteen minutes before the closing of the tournament. Karl DeAngelo and Johnny Modica was walking pass and stopped to ask about the charity and jumped in to support the cause. Both player were going head to head on different machines. It was weird they were playing the same strategy the call outs for the modes sounded like it was an echo. Johnny fell out at 53m but Karl was continuing on with 67 on ball. Started Kobayashi Maru and finished at 94m.

Preston was not happy about second place, he had his eye set on the big Norman Loves Gourmet Chocolate Gift Basket. He did a final run at 11:59 pm trying to reclaim his 1st place spot had a great attempt but fell short at the end.

Great job by all the players, it was fun to watch the battle all day long.
 Congratulations to our top players.

1st place Karl DeAngelo
2nd place Preston Moncla
3rd place Cryss Stephens
