Yeah, that was a really fun tourney!   Laser Ball was the game I won the tie-break on, when Donny drew it out of the hat, I was like "Oh, no...never played this machine before!"  Luckily my opponent hadn't either, I think.  Fun machine!

...and then the upper right flipper started chattering, so I had to pull it from the finals. I'll have it working for the next Asylum event though. It really is a fun game.

Great tourney, lots of fun! (Lots of stress, too!)

I want to thank first and foremost, Donny for putting this together. Right behind him in the thanks department is Dan and Jason for all of their hard work keeping scores on this and the kind folks who supplied the games.  The amount of work to run a tourney of this level is insane-we witness a very small version of the hectic nature in FLiPS each month and we have seen the efforts at the Asylum.  It is not easy.  Many thanks for all of the hard work and the volunteer work of Dan and Jason. That was just awesome of you guys.

I want to congratulate my son for qualifying in A-division.  He is something else :) I should just stop playing and live my pinball dreams through him :) He is not just a chip off the old block; the kid has created his own mold. He will be dangerous.

I want to congratulate my good friends in FLiPS and Florida for doing so well. There are so many of my friends that did great! It was nice to show the seasoned tourney players that us locals have some skills. I also appreciated the FLiPS shirts I saw throughout the weekend :)

We had some great competition.  If you, the reader, are ever bored, look up the pinball rankings of some of the names of the people in the qualifying/finals.  The SPF had some well-known players including my good pinball friend and great competitor Brian Dominy, our FLiPS Representative!

On a personal level, I was pretty satisfied with my 5th place qualifying result considering the talent I was competing with-there are no easy wins or scores. I think the top players quickly saw they could not just walk in here and beat us up :)  I had guaranteed a qualification for A-division early on, but it turned out I was in 5th "on the double bye bubble" as I was in a unique position to qualify in the top 4 to get those 2 byes.  That would also change who I faced and when I faced them. Those last few points were just too hard to get.

I did not fare as well in the finals as I wished (I always want to win-that's why we compete, right?, but nobody wins everything). I have to admit, it was a challenge to get used to an entirely new bank of games after qualifying for 2 days on 5 different machines. In the qualifying I got used to how the machine feeds and plays.  So I learned that I need to work on my adaptation skills.   I am pretty sure that is what they do in PAPA and other big tourneys, so I had better get used to it.

It was also quite amusing to reflect on how I play in a tourney mode versus dorking around casually.  When it is all on the line, the scores somehow seem much less than one would expect :) Pressure can be brutal, especially if self inflicted :)

All in all, it was a great tourney and I was very pleased to play with my fantastic son,  good pinball friends and world class pinball players and at least I did not get Super Grover LOL.

Again, thanks to all of the organizers, volunteers and game suppliers, and thanks to all of the good players out there. I enjoyed playing with you all.

The tournament was really fun and I surprised myself will some really good early round play in the A group.  In the end I was thoroughly outmatched by the guys in the top 8.

Many thanks to Donny as he spent his whole weekend running the Tournament and did a really great job.  It was a labor of love you could tell.  Also, thanks to Mole and Klassic for recording scores.  It was a great tournament and really added legitimacy to the show.  As expected, there were people who traveled across the country for the chance to get WPPR points...
